Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home, Inc. announces the transition of Mr. Charles William Pruitt, Sr. Public viewing will be held Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home, Inc., 2615 Stillman Boulevard, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401. Flower delivery will be Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 2, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at Weeping Mary Baptist Church, 2701 20th Street, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401. Mr. Pruitt will lie in state at Weeping Mary Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park, 1401 Mimosa Park Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405. "Providing Affordable and Professional Services Since 1923." Early Wednesday Morning, November 20, 2024, God sent an Angel of Silence quietly into the room of Deacon Charles William Pruitt, Sr. His soul winged its flight from this world of pain, sin, and sorrow, to a place of eternal rest, peace, and joy. He was a native of Millport, Alabama in Larmar County born a beautiful baby boy to William Pruitt and Nabor Mae Pruitt, July 22, 1933. At an early age he confessed Christ and united in fellowship at the Weeping Mary Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, Alabama under the leadership guidance of the Reverend Dr. Edward Howard Jones, the Reverend Dr. Jessie Lee Simpson and currently, the Reverend Ricky J. McKinney. Charles has been a member for over 65 years. He was ordained as Deacon in May 2007 served faithfully as a dedicated member on the Deacon's Board and was recognized by the Heritage Committee, named as the oldest Deacon and male member of the church. He served on the Bus Transportation Ministry, providing church members to and from church services and activities. He also served on the culinary committee helping with the preparation, cooking, and serving during Repast. He was a wonderful man, devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a dear friend to all those that knew him, dedicated to Christian Principles and great service to others - a precious gift from God. He attended public school in Tuscaloosa at the Industrial High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army, served from May 1954 to May 1956, within the 24th Transportation Company, completing a tour of duty in Germany. After separation from the U.S Army, he was employed in Tuscaloosa by Floyds Supermarket as a butcher and worked part-time in the community along-side with his step-father, as a electrician. Later, he was then employed by the B.F. Goodrich Tire Company working in the Scheduling Department for 30 years until his retirement in 1994. Charles was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Beatrice H. Pruitt for more than 60 years. To this union, four children were born; Charles W. Pruitt, Jr., Bonnie G. Pruitt McIntosh, Marcus C. Pruitt, and Myron A. Pruitt. Among his relatives that preceded him in death are his parents: William Pruitt, and Nabor Mae Pruitt Blalock; Stepfather, Mozelle Blalock; his wife, Beatrice H. Pruitt; his son, Charles W. Pruitt, Jr; his step-brother, Cecil Pruitt, and his grandson, Brandon L. McIntosh. He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Bonnie G. Pruitt McIntosh, Tampa, FL; two sons: Marcus C. Pruitt (Gigi), Montgomery, AL; and Myron A. Pruitt, Tuscaloosa, AL; six grandchildren: Demetrius Williams (Lillie), LaShekia Holifield, Katrina Eatmon (Marcus), Tiffany Johnson, Daphne Corbin (Darrius) and Marcia Turner; eleven great-grandchildren: Desiree Williams, Demetrius Wiliams, Jr., Shaniya Holifield, William Holifield, Asia Green, Christian Eatmon, Chloe Johnson, Layla Johnson, Gianna Corbin, Jordan Turner, and Jada Turner; his siblings: Donald Pruitt, Sacramento, CA; and Willie Ann Blalock Sledge, Tuscaloosa, AL; eight nephews, seven nieces, and a host of other close relatives.
