Miss Tina Sharon Simmons

–

Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home, Inc. announces with deepest sympathy the transition of Miss Tina Sharon Simmons.
Tina Sharon Simmons 9/3/1962 - 4/7/2021 Tina Sharon Simmons passed away on April 7, 2021, at the age of 58 in her home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
She was born September 3, 1962, to the late Horace & Kate Simmons Jr. of Macon, Ga. From the day she was born she held a special place in everyone's heart. Her life prognosis was not favorable and institutionalizing her was recommended, as doctors didn't know much about Down's Syndrome at that time. They told her parents that she would be lucky to live to age 25. With that, they took their baby Tina home, and the rest is history. Tina went on to live a very fulfilling life. She attended school, competed in the Special Olympics, worked, traveled, and even experienced independent living. Tina had many hobbies that included: bowling, coloring, ironing, and an uncanny ability for putting together very complex puzzles. She LOVED all holidays with her birthday being her favorite. She found joy in the small things and forever impacted those who were blessed to encounter her.
She is survived by her 6 loving sisters Phyllis Worthen, Gwendolyn Wilson (James), Sophia Wright, Katie Harris, Bobbie Jean Magley (Patrick), Oreitha Sanders (Reginald), a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. In her later years, she was cared for by her sister & brother-in-law Gwendolyn & James Wilson, with whom she lived for 10 years. Her final home was with the loving team of Debrick & Associates home Ocean 4 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she was treated like family.
Her smile, quick wit, and endearing presence will be greatly missed by us all. Although she is no longer with us, we find comfort in the fact that heaven for her will always be her home on Simmons Rd where she will be with her beloved father and mother forever.
