Mr. Lester "Pee Wee" Calhoun, Jr. Obituary (1946 - 2021)

Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home, Inc. announces with deepest sympathy the transition of Mr. Lester "Pee Wee" Calhoun, Jr. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Lester "PeeWee" Calhoun, Jr., son of the late Lester Sr. and Carol Lee (Mayes) Calhoun was born on December 23, 1946 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was one of six children. At an early age, Lester migrated from South Carolina with his father and siblings to Brooklyn, New York where he attended Boys High School. It was also where he met and united in holy matrimony to the late Gloria D. Whitehurst. This union was blessed with two children. Lester later attended school for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and worked on thousands of projects throughout a thirty-year career building and repairing cooling units. Lester loved to fish. He delighted in taking fishing trips not only for the big catch but to bond with his family and friends. He also enjoyed other hobbies which included watching comedy concerts, hunting, cooking (three-cheese macaroni), and studying to play the bass guitar at the age of 70. Above all things, he loved God and his family. Lester was an active member of Bright Light Church of God and Christ in Brooklyn, NY. He later migrated to Tuscaloosa, AL in 2015 where he continued a renewed relationship with Christ serving faithfully at Culver Road Church until his peaceful departure from this life on Thursday, March 04, 2021, at Druid City Hospital Regional Medical Center. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of these children: Lester Whitehurst of Brooklyn, NY and Maurice Calhoun (Timika) of Snellville, GA; brother Lorenzo Calhoun Sr. (Thelma) of Covington, GA; five grandchildren: Dinasia, Brandon, Kiera, Lania, and Myles Gregory; and a host of devoted and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
